Paddleboarding in heavenly turquoise water gulf in Corsica

Written by Simon Bianchetti /

Southern Corsica is considered to have the highest concentration of small turquoise water beaches. Located in the Bonifacio region in the extreme south of Corsica, the Gulf of Sperone and its islands offer a wonderful playground for paddle boarding. The nearest island, the island of Piana, is a natural protection against the waves in the Gulf which allows to walk in Paddle practically like on a lake.

From the pier, right next to the marina of Piantarella, the itinerary we recommend will take you along the coastline, composed of fine sand and small rock formations, towards the beach of Petit Sperone (approx. 1 km of paddle). Wedged between two rocks and composed of fine white sand and transparent water, it is the ideal place to take a sunbathing break before resuming the trip to the island of Piana.

Highlights

Located 500m from the paddle of Petit Sperone beach, the island of Piana is easily accessible and offers a unique place to rest. Accessible only by the waters, it is much quieter and it is easy to find a small beach where you will be the only ones by making the turn before joining the zone of embarkation.

    41.3767968785278, 9.221637370483732
  • Nearest parking

There is free parking space along the road to the boarding point, however, during peak periods, you may be parked more than 500m from the boarding point. If you plan to stay a few days in the "Camping des îles", I advise you to leave your car in the campsite and join the spot on foot.

  • Launch point

The launch point can be done from the boat boarding ramp in the marina or directly from the beach right next to the port.

  • Places to stay

We recommend you to spend a few days in the "camping des îles" located on the heights less than a kilometer away. It offers a breathtaking view of the lagoon and the welcome and services are impeccable for a very reasonable price.

  • Places to eat and drink

At the end of your journey you can stop in the bar / restaurant "L'effet mer" to enjoy a Corsican beer or nibble some local specialties. Located next to the boarding point and at the edge of the water, it is very convenient and the view of the gulf is breathtaking.

Things to know

Corsica is a very windy place and this spot is particularly exposed. In case of strong wind, I do not recommend taking the paddle. Check the weather before your trip.
