Prevent Cabin Fever With These Stay-At-Home Workouts

Humans are not designed to be cooped up for too long and movement is essential for our mental health and physical wellbeing. It goes without saying that it’s good for us to get up and stay mobile and in light of the slightly unpredictable climate we currently find ourselves in, we’ve seen a host of creative ways in which you can keep active at home. We thought we’d share with you our favourite workouts to keep you going and ensure you're ready to hit the ground running when we're allowed out again

Who needs a HIIT

High-Intensity Interval Training has been a popular dose of fun for a good few years now. With no equipment needed and not much space required, HIIT is a great go-to for anyone who wants to keep active but has access to limited space. In a time when we're all confined to our gardens or homes and with limited kit, HIIT workouts tick a lot of boxes and are great if you still have busy lives!


10 Minutes EMOM (Every Minute on the minute)

Complete the below exercises before the minute is up, then repeat for 10 minutes. 

  • 5 squats 
  • 5 push-ups 
  • 5 lunges


20 Minutes

Complete 5 Rounds - 40 seconds of max work on each exercise - rest for 20 seconds then move on to next exercise 

  • Mountain Climbers 
  • Burpees 
  • High Kicks 
  • Frog Jumps

Hard on the Legs! 

These workouts are a great way of testing your progression. Once a week see if you can beat your time. If you want to really test yourself and to add a little spice, you can hold a light weighted object in each hand (if you don't have dumbbells then anything from canned food to a drinks bottle or petrol cans filled with water will work great). 

100 Lunges For Time

At the end of every minute stop and complete 10 push ups, then continue chipping away at the lunges. 

The Countdown Workout 50-40-30-20-10 

Start with 50 reps of each each exercise before dropping down to 40 of each etc until complete. 

  • Air Squats 
  • Burpees 
  • High knees - Each raise is a rep 


Workouts for those who love the outdoors

If you can muster up the motivation, exercising in your garden, driveway or balcony offers a great opportunity to get outside. You may get a little bit wet and muddy but hey we’re outdoorsy folk!

5 Rounds for Time

  • 10 Triceps dips on bench/chair
  • 10 Burpees
  • 10 Lunges with weight – Water bottles filled, bricks
  • 10 Mountain Climbers

Get Strong Pyramid

If you have a little bit of weight that you can use, be it bricks, bags of rice, sugar flour or petrol cans filled with water,  then these are a great way of putting on a bit of bulk. Do each of the following exercises in decreasing reps as follows: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1  

  • Seated Shoulder press
  • Squats
  • Bent-over Row

Run Keeper

Under recent guidelines you are are able to have one form of exercise a day outside of your house as long as you are on your own or with members of your household. This gives us the perfect time to get on a bit of sweat with a run. Run Keeper is one of the most popular running apps for pacing and recording your times as well as sharing them with your friends so you can start your own leaderboard and challenges to make a competition of it. There are also some handy training tools if you’re new to running. 

Seconds - Interval timer app

A nifty little app for setting up timers for stations including rest periods for your HIIT workouts. It takes a little of playing around with at the start but once you’re used familiar it's a great way of keeping you on track with your workout. 

Yoga Studio

Flexibility is fundamental if you want to avoid injury for your normal workouts as well as a great way of cooling down and providing you with some much-needed relaxation. Yoga studio is a lovely little app which allows you to simply follow the video tutorial to the best of your ability.

Live Home Workouts

Youtube Channels are a hub of some super exercise regimes the Body Coach TV being one of the more popular online training portals, which allows you to have a quick sweat before you start your day!
